BENEFITS

There may be available benefits or allowances paid by the government that you are eligible for to help with the funeral costs. We can assist you with information as to which government departments to approach.

Centrelink
The Centrelink bereavement payment is to assist with settling financial affairs associated with expenses incurred by the deceased prior to death and this also helps make it easier for you to adjust to changed financial circumstances after the death of your partner or your child, or someone you cared for.

Bereavement payment is generally for people already getting an eligible payment from Centrelink or the Department of Veterans' Affairs.

Department of Veterans' Affairs
If the deceased was an ex-service person you will need to contact the Department of Veterans' Affairs as you may be eligible to claim a veterans' funeral benefit. This is a one-off payment towards the funeral costs. If they are entitled, you will be sent the necessary application forms to complete and once returned, payments will be made into the deceased veterans' estate.
